The data were published at the end of February and can be analysed on WIPO's website here. WIPO also revealed that filings under the Patent Cooperation Treaty grew by 0.3% to 278,100 in 2022. India and the Republic of Korea both saw significant growth. The decline in international trade mark filings (the largest drop since 2009) followed growth of 15% in 2021. There were 69,000 applications in 2022, and L'Oréal was the top filer for the second year running, followed by Novartis AG and Glaxo Group. The growth in design filings was driven by applications from China, which joined the System in May 2022. Chinese applicants filed 2,558 designs out of a global total of 25,028, making China the second-placed country of origin after Germany. The top design filer was Procter & Gamble, followed by Philips Electronics and Samsung Electronics. Hague System amendments Amendments to Rule 14 of the Common Regulations Under the 1999 Act and the 1960 Act of the Hague Agreement come into force on 1 April 2023. WIPO states: "The amendments to Rule 14 will allow the International Bureau to invite the applicant to make payment of at least the basic fee for one design before starting its examination. This will help improve service delivery by focusing examination on cases where fees have been paid." Read more in Information Notice 6/2023 on WIPO’s website. Pictures taken from WIPO's website
