The MARQUES Copyright Team, only formed last year, has been busy compiling a thorough review of the EU Copyright Legislative Package, which can be downloaded from the Team’s page here (PDF, log-in required).

The review includes contributions from various Team members and covers various aspects of the package such as:

• Draft Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market
• Draft Regulation on Copyright and related rights
• Draft Directive on certain permitted uses of works and other subject-matter protected by copyright and related rights for the benefit of persons who are blind/visually impaired and amending InfoSoc Directive 2001/29/EC
• Draft Regulation on cross-border portability of online content services in the EU to remove barriers to cross-border portability to meet needs of travelling consumers whilst maintaining high levels of legal protection for rights holders
• Draft AVMSD to increase the regulation of streaming services and align them more closely with traditional television viewing platforms, also introducing a European content quota

The review is likely to be of interest to all copyright practitioners who need to keep abreast of this developing topic. As Team Chair Cristina Duch writes: “Overall, there have been about 35 legislative proposals and policy initiatives since 2015 … Currently the emphasis is on liaising with the European Parliament and Council to finalize the draft proposals.
