How much can you get for damages for design infringement in India?

"Does Section 22 of the Designs Act 2000 Limit Damages in a Suit to INR 50,000?" asks J. Sai Deepak in a recent blogpost on The Demanding Mistress, his often challenging and generally intriguing Indian intellectual property blog. A limit of 50,000 rupees might sound generous in terms of damages, but it isn't: in European terms it works out at around 625 euro -- not a large sum to attract European or American design owners to enforce their rights in India.

You can read J. Sai Deepak's blogpost in full here.
