Refunds made for overpriced replica shirts
UK-based retailer JJB Sports is to pay out more than £20,000 to football fans who purchased its England and Manchester United replica shirts during 2000 and 2001. This follows legal action by consumer group Which?, after JJB and other retailers were were fined by the competition authorities for fixing the price of shirts. Claimants under the class action will each receive a £20 per shirt refund, while purchasers who did not join in the legal action will received just £10 per shirt. Payment will be made on proof of purchase, which must be submitted to JJB by 5 February 2009. It is not known whether the licensors of the marks and emblems incorporated in the shirts are expected to make any contribution to the expense and costs incurred by JJB as their licensee.
