Poland: some simplified seizures stats

The Customs Office in Warsaw (part of the Polish Customs Service) has published its statistics, in a PDF file in the Polish language, for the first two quarters of 2008 regarding customs action against goods suspected of infringing certain intellectual property rights and the measures taken against goods found to have infringed such rights.

The Customs Office in Warsaw - statistics for year 2008:

Types of goods protected by IP rightsAmount of goodsCosts
Clothes151271 055 717,00 zl
Shoes66385 500,00 zl
CD, DVD3087293 736,00 zl
Cosmetics507396 330 054,00 zl
Other93392286 293,00 zl
Total costs8 051 300,00 zl

The simple rate of exchange service provided by Google will inform Class 46 readers that the total costs of goods seized for first two quarters of 2008 comes to around 2.3 million Euros. However, regardless the increased efficiency of such actions, the administrative procedures do not solve all the problems of IP holders in Poland. Class 46 has previously reported recent judgment of the Polish Supreme Court in which the Court considered the question whether acts of purchasing counterfeit goods should be deemed as fencing.
