Warning over imitation USPTO website
EUIPO has shared details of a fraudulent website that imitates the USPTO website.
The website uses the text and phone number of the USPTO’s own Trademark Assistant Center website, and was first reported by Tim Lince on World Trademark Review (WTR) here.
This is the latest of several websites that have mimicked the USPTO, some of which have been traced to companies based in Karachi, Pakistan.
Many of them are targeting trade mark applicants, offering low-cost filings and in investing in Google Ads, according to the WTR report.
EUIPO and other IP offices urge trade mark applicants and proprietors to check domain names on websites before opening them and to report any fraudulent websites.
