UK IPO: Public Consultation on the Modernisation and Consolidation of the Trade Marks Rules
In a press release of 3 March 2008, the UK IPO reports that a public consultation on the amendment and consolidation of the Trade Mark Rules 2000 has been launched. The Trade Marks Rules 2000 set out procedural and operational requirements which apply to trade marks and trade mark applications in the UK.
"(t)he Trade Marks Rules 2000 have been amended seven times since they came into force; these amendments have led to some unnecessary duplication and possible causes of confusion. We propose to produce a new consolidated edition of the Rules, also incorporating a number of changes.
This consolidation has four purposes:
1. Consolidation of existing changes to the Trade Marks Rules 2000 in order to increase accessibility and remove existing duplication, inconsistency and possible confusion.
2. Bringing the UK fully into line with international best practice and enabling ratification of the Singapore Treaty on Trade Mark Law.
3. Making the tribunal system more flexible, efficient and proportionate.
4. Introducing business changes so as to increase the speed and efficiency of processes and reduce costs."
2. Modernisation and consolidation of the Trade marks rules (3.87Mb)
