Germany switches to the 10th edition of the Nice classification as well ...

In line with OHIM (and supposedly many other national offices), the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA) will change to an application of the 10th edition of the Nice Classification on January 01, 2012.

As it is the case with OHIM (see earlier post) this only applies to applications being received on January 01, 2012 or later. Any application filed after January 01, 2012 and being classified according to the 9th edition may thus need to be reclassified which in turn may lead to delays with respect to the registration.

More information (so far in German only), including a summary of the changes in the classification, can be found on the web site of the DPMA (link here).

The GPTO also mentions that while the editions of the Nice classification will keep on following their "5 year live cycle", yearly changes will be implemented starting from January 01, 2013. This includes additions / deletions of entries from the list. However, major changes, e.g. re class headings, addition of new classes or deletion of classes will be adopted in new editons of the classification only.

Also since publication week 25 2011 most of the german IPC data will be automaticly generated. e.g. the action date will always be the publication date, the office will always be DE, every entry will be marked as human generated, non inventive will only be set on a small set of predefined classes.
