Poland: play fair with sponsors

On 22 August 2009, during the World Championships in Athletics in Berlin, Polish hammer thrower Anita Wlodarczyk set a world record with a throw of 77.96 metres. The Polish website sport.pl reports that during the extraordinary finale watched by millions of viewers in Poland and all over the world Wlodarczyk was wearing t-shirt, on which the long-time sponsor's logo was covered by a white stripe. She also posed for pictures while her record was displayed. These photos were published in the biggest newspapers and displayed on many websites. Reebok - the sponsor - has sent an official letter to the Polish Athletics Association demanding explanations.

Jerzy Skucha the chief of PAA has said that it was an unfortunate case and there was no fault on Anita's side. The PAA learned about this incident from the Pentagon Research which was monitoring of sponsoring during the the World Championships in Athletics. It turned out that she only had t-shirts with Samsung's logotypes - the sponsor of the PAA. Anita Wlodarczyk explained to the press that a person from a technical management of the call room sealed logos of Reebok and Samsung with one big stripe just before the final performance. During the qulifications she had also a t-shirt with a sealed logotype but only Samsung's logo was covered.

- Anita came out for the final and she did not bother to wrangle about the size of the patch, Janusz Szydlowski (who is Anita Wlodarczyk's manager) told the press.
However, there is a small "but" to all these statements. When Wlodarczyk came back to Warsaw she met with photographers and television cameramen at the Okecie airport. She posed with a gold medal on the t-shirt which had a realy big logo of Nike on it. Jerzy Skucha told that he is not responsible for how Anita Wlodarczy get dressed. According to Skucha the return flight of Wlodarczyk was organized at the last minute and she did not know if she is required to wear the official attire. From January 1, 2009 Anita Wlodarczyk has signed an individual sponsorship contract with Nike.
