Spain – The victory of the national football team in the UEFA EURO 2008 is expected to enhance the international value of the “Made in Spain” brand.

As previously reported, the Spanish government and private organizations are struggling to develop and implement worldwide a brand image for the “Made in Spain” brand as a marketing tool to foster the international activities of Spanish companies.

In this respect, La Gaceta de los Negocios reports that the “Foro de Marcas Renombradas” (“Leading Brands of Spain Association”, a private foundation formed by a of Spanish private companies and the Public Administration) considers that the recent victory of the Spanish national football team in the UEFA EURO 2008 tournament will increase imports and will trigger an increase of almost “two tenths” in the Spanish gross domestic product (“GPD”). According to the Spanish National Institute of Statistics, the growth of the Spanish GPD has been 2.7% during the first quarter of the current year.

The “Leading Brands of Spain Association” also considers that successful sportsmen (such as tennis player Rafael Nadal, F-1 racing driver Fernando Alonso and basketball player Pau Gasol) are the "best ambassadors" for the “Made in Spain” brand.
