Seychelles drops UK extensions in favour of home-grown registrations
The Seychelles Parliament has passed a new statute, the Industrial Property Act, which has a number of effects. Once it comes into force, the Seychelles will have provision for the registration and protection of industrial designs. Up to now this has not been the case: design protection has been available only through the extension to that jurisdiction of a United Kingdom registered design.
The new act covers unfair competition and sets out specific acts or practices which are contrary to honest practices and, therefore, constitute acts of unfair competition. It also recognises well-known marks, collective marks, three-dimensional marks, geographical indications and trade names.
