Benin says bye-bye to London Act
For those seeking to protect their designs in foreign parts, there's more news on the Hague Agreement front. The Republic of Benin -- which older readers may remember as Dahomey -- has joined the list of countries accepting the termination of the London Act of 1934. Benin, one of the most excitingly design-conscious countries in Africa, has acceded to the Hague Act of 1960 and the Complementary Stockholm Act of 1967.  The WIPO media release announcing this reads as follows:

The Hague Notification No. 119

Hague Agreement Concerning the International Deposit of Industrial Designs

London Act of the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Deposit of Industrial Designs

Acceptance of termination by the Republic of Benin

The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to notify that the Government of the Republic of Benin deposited, on September 19, 2013, an instrument of acceptance of the termination of the London Act of the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Deposit of Industrial Designs of November 6, 1925, as revised at London on June 2, 1934.

A separate notification will be made on the coming into effect of the termination when the required number of acceptances is reached.
