Belgium: another brick in the wall
Here, in all its glorious detail, is the text of today's WIPO media release which heralds the good news of yet another small but significant brick in the wall that forms part of the edifice of WIPO-administered international systems for the protection of registered IP rights, as Belgium upgrades its Hague membership (to which it subscribed on 1 April 1979) to the level of the Geneva Act:

The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to notify the deposit by the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium, on June 7, 2013, of its instrument of ratification of the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs, adopted at Geneva on July 2, 1999 (the "Geneva Act").
There are now 60 Contracting Parties to the Hague Agreement (the Benelux is not a separate Contracting Party, while the European Union is). Posted by: Blog Administrator @ 16.51The instrument was accompanied by a declaration under Article 19, according to which:"The Benelux Office for Intellectual Property is designated as a common office to the three Benelux countries and the territories of the three countries to which the Benelux Convention on Intellectual Property applies (trademarks and designs) is considered as one single Contracting Party for the application of Articles 1, 3 to 18 and 31 of the Geneva Act".The Geneva Act will enter into force, with respect to the Kingdom of Belgium, at a later date in accordance with Articles 27 and 28 of the Treaty.
