Tata now "preferred" for Jaguar, Land Rover brands

Guardian Unlimited reports that the Ford motor company's attempt to sell the classic Jaguar and Land Rover vehicle marques has come closer to fruition now that Indian-based Tata Motors has been given "preferred bidder" status. Negotiations will now continue on a bilateral basis. The two motor brands are manufactured in the UK, where nearly 16,000 carmakers depend on them for their continued employment.
