Latest edition of "Alicante News": new e-filing system on its way

The latest edition of Alicante News, the OHIM's monthly online newsletter, has now been published. As usual, the newsletter is full of topics of interest to trade mark enthusiasts. This month's country overview focuses on Denmark. The subject of James Nurton's in-depth interview is Roline Bergsma of Tommy Hilfiger. There is the ususal selection of case law from the Office itself, the ECJ and from the Court of First Instance, information on OHIM's e-business roundup (2009) as well as detailed filing statistics for December 2008 and more details on the fee change for national searches. We learn that the use of the CTM e-filing web form is steadily above 80 %, that 21% of oppositions against CTM applications are now received electronically and that MyPage users represent around 42% of all CTM applications filed.

Finally, the newsletter informs its readers that there is a new CTM e-Filing on its way that could make e-filing easier.

On this point the newsletter states:

"Over the past few months, in consultation with users and in particular with the OHIM e-business users group, OHIM has been designing a new CTM e-filing solution. This new system is intended to improve the user experience when filing CTM applications online. It should be both easier to use and perform better. Several features will contribute to achieving this objective: The form will be in a single page with a simple left menu to facilitate navigation. Fewer mouse clicks are needed to introduce Goods and Services. An online self-help system can be activated to support users when completing the form. Draft forms can easily be saved locally or in the MyPage personalised web platform, and can be restored on demand. The official receipt will be generated automatically on making the final submission. This new and improved CTM e-filing solution is scheduled to go live shortly."

OHIM will publish further information about the new e-filing system on the website in the coming weeks.
