Last week saw the online publication of Council Regulation 1229/2008 of 10 December 2008 entering certain names in the Register of protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications (San Simón da Costa (PDO), Ail blanc de Lomagne (PGI), Steirischer Kren (PGI)). This Regulation, as its name suggests, confers protected geographical indication status on Ail blanc de Lomagne -- a French garlic -- and the Austrian horseradish Steirischer Kren. It also confers protected designation of origin status on the Spanish San Simón da Costa cheese.
