Finland: Settlement in "Unikko" Poppy dispute
More settlement news. This time from Finland. Class 46 recently reported on a trade mark dispute between Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana's Finnish home textiles maker Marimekko concerning Dolce & Gabbana's use of Marimekko "Unikko-design" in their 2008 spring fashion line. On 10 June 2008 Dolce & Gabbana had commenced invalidity proceedings at the OHIM against Marimekko’s Community trade mark No. 3192945 Unikko (device) after Marimekko had claimed Dolce & Gabbana had used their trade mark Unikko (=poppy)pattern without permission.
Newsroom Finland now reports that the parties have settled this dispute. According to an announcement by Marimekko published today, Dolce & Gabbana is to pay Marimekko compensation for using its "Unikko-design". Both parties are reportedly dropping all pending law suits concerning this matter.
