The many faces of the "marque France"
The French governement is developping a trade mark approach to promote the country economic activities. For instance, in 2007 a license on the trade mark Le Louvre was granted to the Arab Emirates government in order to develop a Louvre museum in Abu Dhabi (see the NY Times). More recently, while in Dubai, Anne-Marie Idrac, secretary of State in charge of foreign trade, revealed a "France" trade mark. The logo featuring a stylized Eiffel tower will be a sign for French foreign trade.
The worldwide known symbol of the French capital won't shock anyone. A little less chast is another "France" trade mark, which gracefully reveals the naked charms of Marianne (not unlike the famous Delacroix painting or Sophie Marceau 2005 appearance in Cannes. By the way she was once rumored to have been the model of the Marianne sculpture which is tradionnaly placed in every tawn hall in France, but that's another story).
This "rendez-vous en France" logo is also a State-owned trade mark, to be used for the promotion of tourism in France. The typographic curbs of this trade mark were unveiled in June 2008 by Christine Lagarde, Minister of Finance.
