MARQUES and Humboldt University Berlin are hosting a Seminar on Trade Mark Law on 18 September, ahead of the MARQUES Annual Conference.

The interactive seminar is aimed at students and young IP professionals. It will take place at the HU Berlin Faculty of Law from 10am to 12 noon.

The topic is “Product Piracy – Dangers and Economic Harm Resulting from Trademark Counterfeiting”.

A number of MARQUES members are taking part in the seminar. The topics and speakers are:

• Faking it: Why and how brands must protect against rising trade in counterfeit goods – Nicole Klug
• Environmental and safety impact: Storage and destruction of dangerous (fragrance) goods – Mai-Britt Kroll
• All fake in China – Why should I care at all? – Florian Schleifer
• The danger to consumer and the reputation of the mark – Edanela Perez Broce
• Private raids in IP counterfeiting cases – Martin Wintermeier
