Working Group proposes replacement of "tacit acceptance" regime
The monthly MARQUES News Channel service reports that, during its 5th Meeting, the Working Group for the Legal Development of the Madrid System agreed to recommend an important change to the system: in short, all designated offices should be required to issue a Statement of Grant of Protection for each successful designation. MARQUES has been pushing for this since 2005, to replace the current "tacit acceptance" principle. This recommendation awaits adoption by the Madrid System's General Assembly in September 2008.
