Advanced Domain Name Workshop - coming soon!

The WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center will hold its annual Workshop on domain name dispute resolution in Geneva next Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th October.

Programme

According to the Workshop website:

Through various presentations and exercises, participants in the Workshop will receive information on, inter alia:

  • the WIPO Center’s domain name dispute resolution services
  • the legal framework of the UDRP
  • building on the WIPO Overview 3.0, the trends of UDRP decisions on the most relevant substantive and procedural issues
  • emerging challenges and procedural developments
  • developments in the DNS more generally, including the UDRP and URS experience

Using the WIPO Overview 3.0 and recent decisions as principal guides, the faculty will discuss selected topics with participants on the basis of UDRP cases. Examples include: Geographical Scope and Timing of Trademark Rights, Unregistered Trademark Rights, Personal Names/Geographical Terms, Licensee Rights/Rights Among Corporate Entities, Confusing Similarity and Website Content, Fair Use, Internationalized Domain Names, Disclaimed or Design Elements in Trademarks, Privacy and other Registrar issues, Parking and Landing Pages, Willful Blindness, the Conjunctive Requirement, the Role of Precedent, Laches, Consolidation, Panel (Procedural) Orders, Supplemental Filings, Language of Proceedings, and Reverse Domain Name Hijacking.

Speakers

Many of the speakers will be familiar to MARQUES members. There will be presentations by David Bernstein and Tony Willoughby, and breakouts led by Luca Barbero, Matthew Harris, Stephanie Hartung, Andrew Lothian, Richard G Lyon and Bill Towns.

Useful information

Participants will receive a certificate of participation, and reasonable efforts will be made to assist with CLE credit.

The Workshop will take place from 9am to 6pm on the first day, followed by a cocktail reception, and 9am to 5pm on the second day. It will be held in English.

The registration fee is Sfr750. There is a limit on the number of participants so please email arbiter.meetings@wipo.int for more information.

Readers might also like to note that the WIPO Center published its first decision for the .eu top-level domain, on the domain instagram.eu, on 18th September.
