Polish PDO's problems
In Today's issue, the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita reports about recent problems with counterfeits of OSCYPEK - a Polish Protected Designation of Origin which entered in the register according to the Commission Regulation 127/2008 of 13 February 2008.
Polish highlanders do not believe European Union's certificates. They do not want to legalize the production on sheep's cheese.Jan Janczy, director of the Regional Union of Sheeps and Goats Breeders in Nowy Targ, who has also applied for the certificate explains that:
There would be more people willing to apply for it, if they saw effects of the fight against OSCYPEK's counterfeiters. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Trade Inspection has already become involved in anti-counterfeiting actions, but Jan Janczy thinks that controls in restaurants or shops do not solve the problem of individual salesmen who are present at tourist traps.
