Poland: protection of National symbols
Whoever publicly profanes the sign of Fighting Poland (Kotwica) shall be punished by a fine. These are the new provisions of the Polish Act of 10 June 2014 on the protection of the Fighting Poland Sign.
The very popular symbol against the German occupation of Poland during the World War II was created by Anna Smoleńska in 1942. She died at German concenration camp Auschwitz in 1943.
The newly adopted law says that the Fighting Poland as a symbol of the fight of the Polish nation with the German aggressors and occupiers during World War II, is a national treasure and it is protected due to the historical legacy of the Polish republic.
The provisions of the Offences Code will be applied in cases for the protection of the sign. The law does not provide the answer which state authority will be responsible for granting the rights to use the sign, however, it is still allowed to use the symbol on different historical memorabilia without any permission.
