New .UK domain - from tomorrow
Starting on 10 June 2014 at 8 am UK time (tomorrow) Nominet, the UK's domain name registry, will allow second level domain names to be registered (i.e. yourname.uk). Nominet confirms that .co.uk is still staying, along with .org.uk, .me.uk and all the other domains ending in .uk that currently exist.
For registrants that already own a unique .co.uk (or .org.uk, me.uk, .net.uk, etc.) domain, the corresponding .uk will be reserved by Nominet until 10 June 2019 - unless the existing .co.uk (or .org.uk, .me.uk, .net.uk, etc) domain lapses, for example due to non-renewal.
Nominet provides an online tool which enables you to check who has the right-of-registration. It can be accessed by clicking here. More information can be found here.
