Last October, the UK IPO introduced a new fast track opposition procedure with the aim of reducing the cost and time burden of filing oppositions.  Details of this new procedure can be found here.

Have you been tempted but were waiting to hear just how the new scheme is working? The UK IPO has now provided an update and "latest figures show that, up until mid January [2014], the IPO had received 54 fast track oppositions (...) . Of these, 13 have been resolved by the applicant or the opponent withdrawing (the appliation/opposition). The first contested decision is expected soon. Around 10% of opponents are using the fast track so far."
