Wernesgrüner Bier GI cancelled
It’s not often that a geographical indication is cancelled, which makes Commission Implementing Regulation 1148/2013 of 14 November 2013 cancelling the registration of a name in the register of protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications [Wernesgrüner Bier (PGI)] all the more interesting.
Cancellation might suggest that the name Wernesgrüner Bier is now free for everyone to use for all beer-related purposes – but don’t be too sure of it. If nothing else, you might be infringing Community and national trade marks for the words Wernesgrüner Pils Legende and for a label containing those words registered by the Wernesgrüner Brauerei GmbH of Steinberg, Germany.
