Spain: The Conquest of Marca España
There has been a huge amount of hype these days
surrounding the Spanish Trademark application M3074831for "Marca España" by an
individual named Luis Sans Huecas for telecommunication services in class
38, with filing date 9 May 2013. The application is open to
oppositions until 23 July 2013.
The project "Marca España", and the High Commissioner retained by the Government to lead it, were created by Royal Decree 998/2012, dated 28 June 2012. The purpose of this project was to enhance the positive
image of Spain in the fields of the economy, science, culture, technology and
social, both domestically and beyond our borders.
The High Commissioner, under the sign Marca España, has been investing efforts
in spreading the word of the Spanish
companies and citizens, and cooperating with the Spanish Administration,
including universities, commercial delegations, broadcasting public companies,
etc. to show the world how agile, gleaming, smart and solid Spain could be despite the
ongoing massive crisis.
failed to secure the mark to which such reputation should have been
attached. And someone has just done it.
question is: is such a mark actually valid? The High Commissioner is now
expected to use all legal means at hand to avoid continuance of the application,
which might be various in length, costs and grounds. We will keep an eye on
the route chosen by the High Commissioner and keep the readers up-to-date.

There is a mistake in the trademark application number. The correct one is 3074821.
