26 October -- a golden day for GI protection in Europe

Here is another selection of recent appellations that are now protected under European Union law:

Commission Implementing Regulation 1041/2012 of 26 October 2012 entering a name in the register of protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications (平谷大桃 (Pinggu Da Tao) (PDO)) confers protected GI status on Pinggu Da Tao, a Chinese peach that grows in the vicinity of Beijing. 

Commission Implementing Regulation 1030/2012 of 26 October 2012 entering a name in the register of protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications (Isle of Man Queenies (PDO)), "queenie" being an affectionate term for a Queen scallop.

Commission Implementing Regulation 1031/2012 of 26 October 2012 entering a name in the register of protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications (Abensberger Spargel/Abensberger Qualitätsspargel (PGI)).  The Abensberger is a slender, elegant asparagus which hails from Germany.

Commission Implementing Regulation 1032/2012 of 26 October 2012 entering a name in the register of protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications (Ciliegia di Vignola (PGI)), the object of protection here being a red Italian cherry.

Commission Implementing Regulation 1033/2012 of 26 October 2012 entering a name in the register of protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications (Cabrito do Alentejo (PGI)), the Cabrito do Alentejo being an edible Portuguese goat,

Commission Implementing Regulation 1034/2012 of 26 October 2012 entering a name in the register of protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications (Cordeiro Mirandês/Canhono Mirandês (PDO)). Another protected designation from Portugal, but this time it's a sheep.

Commission Implementing Regulation 1035/2012 of 26 October 2012 entering a name in the register of protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications (Kraška panceta (PGI)). The Kraška panceta is a Slovenian dried pork product with a distinctive rectangular appearance.
