Georgia-EU GI pact details now available
In September of last year, Class 46 broke the news that the European Union had signed an Agreement between the European Union and Georgia on protection of geographical indications of agricultural products and foodstuffs. Last week saw the publication on the EU's Official Journal of Council Decision of 14 February 2012 on the conclusion of Council Decision of 14 February 2012 on the conclusion of the Agreement between the European Union and Georgia on protection of geographical indications of agricultural products and foodstuffs, and the full text of the Agreement itself.

Georgia-EU GI pact details now available
The Agreement is 138 pages in length. Almost all of it contains tables listing the geographical indications of EU product to be protected in Georgia, which is not surprising when one considers the disparities between the contracting parties, but there are some Georgian appellations for wine which will henceforth be protected in the EU.
