Here are two pieces of news from Balkan IP practice SD Petosevic:

Serbia: the Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS) begins registering internet domain names with the Serbvian .rs extension on 10 March 2008. The letters ".rs" stand for the Republic of Serbia. They replace the ".yu" names for the former Yugoslavia. Holders of .yu domain names have priority in registering .rs domains for the first six months from 10 March, after which applications will be taken on a first-come, first- served basis.
It is believed that ".yu" domains will continue to be valid until at least 30 September 2009. Registration of .rs domains will be conducted through 27 Serbian registrars accredited by RNIDS. The list of accredited registrars, as well as detailed rules and procedures regarding registration and transition from .yu to .rs, are available in English on the RNIDS website.


Croatia: according to the Croatian IPO's recent official notice, it is now no longer be possible to request an extension of term with the Croatian IPO for the filing of a Power of Attorney (Article 7(6) of the Croatian Law on Representatives in the field of Intellectual Property). The term for filing the Power of Attorney is 60 days from receiving the official invitation to file.
