Germany: Revival of the Trabi brand?
German tabloid Bild reports of new plans to revive the Trabant car brand, also lovingly called "Trabi" or "Trabbi".
The "Trabi" was the most common car in the former GDR and had been in production for almost 30 years without any significant technical changes or upgrades. The decision to revive the brand was taken after model-car maker Herpa had exhibited a miniature model of a new Trabi at the Frankfurt Motorshow (Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung (IAA)) in 2007 with huge success.
According to Bild, the "newTrabi" will be developed by IndiKar, a car maker from Wilkau-Haßlau near the town of Zwickau, Germany. The plan is to build a prototype which will be shown at the Frankfurt Motorshow in 2009.
