New Serbian .rs domain is a success
Following our recent posting regarding the new Serbian .rs domain, newssite B92 reports that there is great interest in the new Serbian .rs domain with 6800 internet addresses having been registered on the first day following the release of the new domain on 10 March 2008. The president of the Serbian Executive Committee of National Internet Domain Registers (RNIDS) Cedomir Šuljagic is quoted as saying that he believes that many users of the old .yu domain know that there is a deadline of six months for registration, and that they will register their own domains. Mr Šuljagic also gives the following overview: 50 per cent of the new registrations are so-called “premium” domains, ending on the extension ".rs.". 35 per cent of the domains are meant for companies, ending on "co.rs" and 12 per cent are individual domains with the extension ".rs". According to Mr. Šuljagic it is the RNIDS’ goal to register 40,000 domains by the end of the 2008. He further stated that
"...active domains with the .yu extension will be active until at least September 2009. That is the deadline according to ICANN, and RNIDS will try to extend that period as long as possible.”Posted by: Birgit Clark @ 15.27
