Greece - Nurofen ad causes headaches

The Greek Communication Review Board has asked Reckitt Benckiser Hellas to amend its TV communication for the NUROFEN pain-relief medicinal product, following a complaint lodged by GlaxoSmithKline. The Board reviewed the advertising claim that "99% of those who use it, trust NUROFEN for immediate relief from headache" and held that it falls short of the requirements prescribed by the self-regulatory Greek Code of Advertisement - Communication. In particular, the Board held that the ad does not provide subastantive data of the survey conducted to substantiate the said claim and, accordingly, could mislead consumers. In its decision (No. A-432), the Board further held that if Reckitt Benckiser Hellas were to incorporate 'banners' in the video of the advertisement to provide such data, then the banners should capture at least 10% of the screen size.
