France: more counterfeit goods seized in 2007
French budget minister Eric Woerth announced that in 2007 customs seized 4,6 millions of counterfeit goods (excluding cigarettes). This amount represent an increase of 15% compared to the previous year. The value of the merchandise seized in 2007 is estimated to 401 millions euros.
The nature of the counterfeit goods is becoming more various. Food and cosmetics are now concerned: in september 2006 Tunisian salads bearing a counterfeit trade mark were discovered in Marseille. Recently in Le Havre, for the first time customs found counterfeit soap: coming from China, 245 000 soaps (valued 300 000 euros) were seized.
