Council of the European Union asks Commission for trade mark reforms
The Council conclusions of 25 May 2010 on the future revision of the Trade Mark system in the European Union (2010/C 140/07) were published this weekend on the online Official Journal of the European Union. They welcome the significant progress made by OHIM towards setting up the Cooperation Fund -- which seeks to redistribute monies held in OHIM's 'cash mountain' -- and encourage OHIM to finalise this work as a priority. They also call for reform of the Community Trade Mark Regulation and the Harmonisation Directive in order to iron out inconsistencies, and for both OHIM and the National Offices to be charged with a more active role in the fight against counterfeits.
