Austria: "trade mark fight" over baby Panda Fu Long
More bear news, this time from Austria: the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation ORF reports of a "trade mark fight" over baby Panda Fu Long (Lucky Dragon). Even though the Vienna Schönbrunn Zoo's 5 months old baby panda Fu Long has only recently given his a fans a first glimpse of himself, applicants already appear to be queueing to file Fu Long trade marks. The ORF reports that there have already been four Fu Long related applications. The first application was already filed in October 2007 by a German applicant at the German Patent and Trade Marks Office, the second application was filed by an Austrian applicant from Kärnten at the Austrian Registry. The Vienna Schönbrunn Zoo is also planning to file for a Fu Long trade mark and is currently evaluating the (legal) situation. A spokesperson for the Austrian Registry confirms that there is "potential for conflict".
