France: bookmakers and the Juventus trade mark
Gaming and gambling news site ateonline reports that a French court has found bookmakers Unibet and William Hill
"... guilty of exploiting the trademarked name of Italian football club Juventus for commercial purposes whilst promoting bets on a 2005 Champions League match between Juventus and Real Madrid. Both companies have been ordered to pay a token €1 fine to Juventus and €10,000 in legal fees each."
According to ateonline the court ruled that online sports betting operators were only allowed to use trade marks of sports teams to advertise games for which they are actually offering bets and only when a bet is being placed. Unibet and William Hill are both reported to have denied trying to use the name as a brand.
