Russia: Future president as vodka's trade mark?
According to Vedomisti's (?????????) article "??????? ???????!" (Vote with your liver!), when Vladimir Putin - the present Russian president - backed Dmitry Medvedev as his successor, the Russian alcohol industry reacted very fast. The The Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trade Marks (ROSPATENT) has already received trade mark applications for such names for alcohol beverages as "Car-Miedwied" (Medvedev the Czar) and "Miedwiedka" (Medvedev's). Aleksandr Jeremienko, the director of BrandLab, said that since Putin's vodka (Putinka - ???????) was a big commercial success and there is still the idea of the "fair Czar" existing in Russian mentality, such plays on words around president's names will be attractive both for alcohol producers and for sellers.
