News from EUIPO

Recent announcements from EUIPO cover Goods and Services declarations under Article 33.8, Costa Rica and fast track EUTM filings

Goods and Services: Declaration under Article 33.8: 24,885 declarations have been received (22,948 for EUTMs and 1,937 for IRs). The deficiency rate was over 55% with most deficiencies being due to the addition of terms already covered by the class headings or to the use of terms that do not exist in the alphabetical lists of the Nice Classification. 99% of declarations have now been deemed closed, and the remainder will soon be dealt with. There have only been 28 appeals made.

Costa Rica joins TMview and Designview: The National Registry of the Republic of Costa Rica made its trade mark and design data available to both search tools on 22 October.

Fast track EUTM filing system: a floating traffic light system has been introduced in the Advanced form to help users benefit from the fast track application system for faster publication. The traffic light system guides users towards a fast track-compliant application.
