Cases relating to new gTLDs constituted 16% of the 2016 caseload, with .xyz, .top and .club the most common new gTLDs in dispute. Country-code TLDs from 74 national domain registries accounted for some 14% of WIPO filings. Since WIPO administered the first UDRP in 1999, there have been more than 36,000 cases covering over 66,000 domain names. Read more in WIPO’s press release. Also this month, WIPO published information on IP filing trends during 2016. There were 52,550 international trade mark applications under the Madrid System in 2016 (a rise of 7.2%) and 18,716 industrial designs handled by the Hague System (growth of 13.9%). The list of Madrid applicants was headed by L’Oréal, followed by Glaxo Group, BMW, Lidl and Novartis. The largest users of the Hague System were: Fonkel Meubelmarketing, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Swatch and Procter & Gamble.
