The report covers 11 jurisdictions at present, and addresses three main topics for each one: (i) what is a certification mark? (ii) how to obtain a certification mark; and (iii) how to maintain a certification mark after it has been obtained. It is presented in two parts for ease of use: first, jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction; and second, by theme. The report also includes examples of certification marks from the jurisdictions covered, including regarding organic products, wool and regarding geographic origin. “Certification marks are an important issue for brand owners who are always trying to differentiate themselves,” said Sarah Bailey, a partner of Simmons & Simmons and member of the Regulatory Team. “They guarantee a particular aspect of your product and can be an important marketing tool.” The report is particularly timely as the EU certification mark will be introduced in October this year. The information on the 11 jurisdictions included has been compiled by members of the Team, but Sarah said more jurisdictions may be added: “We would be very keen to hear from other practitioners outside of these jurisdictions.” Read and download the report on the Regulatory Team’s page of the MARQUES website.
