Handy tips the Annual Conference!

Are you ready for the MARQUES Annual Conference in Villaitana next month? Here are a few tips for those attending

The MARQUES Annual Conference takes place in Villaitana, Spain from 20th to 23rd September. Attendees might like to note the following:

  • Part 2 of the programme (on European trade mark law) has been revised and will include coverage of the consequences for trade mark owners of the UK leaving the EU and the EUTM system. Kate Swaine of Gowling WLG has been added as a speaker to this session. This session starts at 11.30 am on Wednesday 21st September.
  • Part 7 on Indigenous IP Rights (Friday 23rd September) will feature Ambassador Keith Harper, US Ambassador to the UN Human Rights Council, a member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and the first Native American to be appointed a US ambassador, and Dr Daphné Zografos Johnsson, legal officer in the traditional knowledge division of WIPO, an expert on the use of existing IP rights to protect traditional cultural expressions. The session starts at 10 am.
  • Straight after this session, at 11 am, the annual Lewis Gaze Memorial Scholarship will be presented.
  • Don’t forget to choose which workshop you want to attend on the afternoon of Thursday 22nd September. The four options are: (1) Rebranding; (2) The European Observatory and the Enforcement Database; (3) Mediation; and (4) EUIPO's Classification and Searching Tools – Vision of the Future.
  • Finally, note that Villaitana is expected to be warm in September and all the evening social events will be outside, so bear that in mind when packing.

At the time of going to press, registrations for the Annual Conference are on a par with last year and it promises to be a memorable meeting. For more information, including details of how to register if you have not yet done so, visit the dedicated page on the MARQUES website.
