More Cooperation Fund projects go live

A suite of tools making up the Cooperation Fund were switched on last month. The Fund includes 17 projects in total. More than half of these are now operational, with further developments expected next year.

Among the latest developments are:
The launch of the Common Gateway for Applications providing a platform which offers easily accessible tools and online services for trade mark and design users. Through the Gateway, online services such as access to Common Search Tools, knowledge bases and e-learning programmes can all be accessed. The e-learning can be accessed here and the Common Gateway can be found at www.tmdn.org

The development of the Future Software Package, which aims to help national offices and OHIM to offer a range of additional services (both internal and external) to improve efficiency and enhance end user experience. The three streams of the project include: e-filing for trade marks and designs, e-payment, e-opposition, e-cancellation for trade marks, e-registration and the back office for trade marks and designs.

The addition of trade marks from the Austrian Patent Office and the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA) to the TMView database, which provides free access to applications and registrations from 23 trade mark offices, including OHIM and WIPO. TMView is soon expected to include Greece, Cyprus, Ireland and Poland, meaning it will also cover all 27 EU Member States.

The number of offices in the classification tool EuroClass is now 29, after Austria, France, Slovenia and the United States joined at the beginning of 2012 and the Japanese Patent Office and the Romanian State Office for Inventions and Trademarks (OSIM) joined in October and early November respectively. WIPO will also incorporate its databases in the EuroClass system.

Since 1 October, EuroClass is available in 23 languages. It brings together the classification databases of goods and services descriptions or terms of each participating trade mark office, to facilitate the process of classifying goods and services. It also highlights the classification differences that still remain between the participating offices.

MARQUES has participated in the E-Learning and Search Image Cooperation Fund projects, represented respectively by Tove Graulund (of MARQUES Council) and Éva Szigeti of the MARQUES Trade Mark Law and Practice Team.

New goods and services in CTM e-filing

Seniority project grows

As of 15 October 2012, OHIM has introduced a new provisional feature in the section on goods and services in the electronic Community trade mark application form. The feature allows applicants, who have selected the Class Heading for a particular class, to tick a box indicating they wish to be covered for all the goods or services in the alphabetical list of the Nice Classification.   The National Office of Slovenia and the Benelux Office of Intellectual Property (BOIP) have become the fifth and sixth offices to implement the Cooperation Fund seniority project. They join Ireland, Hungary, Portugal and the Czech Republic in the implementation of this project.
