MARQUES GUEST SPEAKER AT THE EPP PUBLIC HEARING ON THE TRADEMARK SYSTEM IN EUROPE

MARQUES received an invitation to be a guest speaker at the Public Hearing on The European Trademark System in the 21 century, organised by the EPP - Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) in the European Parliament on Wednesday, 11 January 2012.

Nunzia Varricchio will represent the Association and will speak on the EU trademark system review and the latest challenges to tackle.

PRODUCT PLACEMENT SURVEY

The Regulatory Team has conducted a product placement survey, reporting on how product placement is regulated according to European Directive 2007/65/EU and national laws in both EU and non EU jurisdictions.

UNFAIR COMPETITION TEAM
CHART OF REGULATIONS ON LOOK-ALIKES

The Unfair Competition Team compiled a chart summarising the regulations concerning the protection and infringement of look-alikes throughout Europe.

OHIM STRATEGIC PLAN 2011-2015

For OHIM, the year 2011 has been marked by the drafting and subsequent implementation of the Office's Strategic Plan.

The OHIM published the draft of its Strategic Plan in May, following an intensive consultation process with OHIM staff members, national Intellectual Property offices of the European Union and other major international offices and user associations, including

OHIM WILL APPLY THE TENTH EDITION OF THE NICE CLASSIFICATION AS OF 1 JANUARY 2012

As of 1 January 2012, OHIM will apply the 10th edition of the Nice Classification, though applications filed before that date will not be reclassified, even if requested by the applicant. Nor will applications filed before this date be reclassified at the time of renewal. The Communication No 1/11 of the President of the Office of 31 October 2011 can be consulted on OHIM's website.

WORLDWIDE IP FILINGS INCREASED IN 2010 DESPITE THE ECONOMIC CRISIS

According to a report published by WIPO on 20 December, intellectual property (IP) filings worldwide rebounded strongly in 2010 after a considerable decline in 2009.
