New Codified version of trade mark
Directive |

The European
Union has published a codified version of the Directive bringing national
rules on trade marks more closely into line with each other. Without any
substantive change, Directive 2008/95/EC of the European Parliament and of
the Council of 22 October 2008 replaces the content of Council Directive
89/104/EEC of 21 December 1988 as amended by a 1992 Council Decision. This
Directive shall enter into force on 28 November 2008.

Forum on Geographical Indications and Appellations
of Origin in Lisbon |

On 30 and 31 October in
Lisbon the Forum on Geographical Indications and Appellations of Origin,
jointly organized by WIPO and the National Institute of Industrial Property
(INPI) of Portugal, and which served as a celebration of the 50th
Anniversary of the Lisbon Agreement for the Protection of Appellations of
Origin and their International Registration took place.
About 50 countries (mainly through officers representing their Trade Mark
Offices or the corresponding Ministries), 4 International Non-Governmental
Organisations including
MARQUES
and some other professionals and organisations with interest in the field of
GIs were present.
