8th Winter Team Meeting

 
What are the teams doing for you?
The 8th Winter Team Meeting was held on the 18-19 February in Nice.  On Friday morning the MARQUES teams report to each other on their achievements, current activities and prospects for the future.   This year, for the first time each team presentation was filmed and both the video and Powerpoint presentations have now been synchronised to run together are now available for you to watch online.

The 24th MARQUES Annual Conference will be held in Berlin, Germany from the 14th to 17th September.  Further information will be available in April 2010.

The Geographical Indications Team has published summary of the EC Wine Regulation (and the implementing regulation ) which became applicable on 1st August 2009, the team have also published a guide to Italy's new rules on "entirely" Italian products as well as a guide to the Protection of Geographical Indication of Spirit Drinks (EC Regulation No. 110/2008).

The Brands & Marketing Team have published a study by BASCAP on the Ecomonic Impact of IP Crime.  A summary and the full report can be downloaded here.

The Designs Team has published a Position Paper on the Public Access to Non-Registerable Designs, a copy of the Position Paper can be downloaded here.

The MARQUES Case Notes contains over 1500 cases and is fully searchable.

This months cases include Sun Microsystems Inc v M-Tech Data Limited in which the defendant seeks to raise a 'Euro-Defense' that the enforcement of the trade mark divides the single market and is a market abuse. Force India Formula One Team Ltd v Ethihead Airways PJSC in which the court rules against a Formula One sponsor who objected to the rebadging of a racing team's car. Puma AG Rudolf Dassler Sport v Coop Danmark A/S in which the price differentials between the parties' products, as well as consumers' perceptions, led to the conclusion that striped footwear sold be the defendant would not be confused with that of the plantiff.
