Representatives of the 27 EU member states, the European Commission and user groups met to review OHIM's performance, budget and future plans in meetings of the OHIM Administrative Board and Budget Committee held in Alicante on 22-23 November.
The Administrative Board received a detailed briefing from OHIM's President António Campinos in his first presentation to the Board since taking over as head of the Office. The presentation covered Office performance, plans for enhanced cooperation, and details on new competences which may be undertaken by OHIM, including a deeper involvement in IP enforcement. The President's briefing was warmly received by delegates, with many expressions of support for the plans. The Budget Committee meeting on 23 November approved the Office's budget and agreed new rules for treasury management.
The Administrative Board elected the Vice President of the Hungarian Patent Office, Mihály Ficsor, as its new Chairman, to formally take office in January 2011. Mr Ficsor, who has been Hungary's national representative on the Administrative Board for some years, was elected by a majority vote of the Board's national representatives.
Welcoming the appointment, Mr Campinos, who was Chairman of the Administrative Board prior to his appointment as President of the Office in October this year said. "We have worked closely together on many issues over a period of years and I look forward to cooperating with him in his new role."
