Italy’s controversial prime minister finds himself in difficulty once more, this time over the right to use its political party People of Freedom - known as PDL (Popolo della Libertà) - symbol.
His rival Mr. Fini who split publicly from the PDL last July, advised the Prime Minister that, as rumour has it, he should come up with a new name for his party because the PDL Statute of Association provides that in case of dissolution of the party, it impedes the use of the PDL symbol without the express consent of all other co-founders -including Fini- who intends to block such use.
PDL replied that its trademarks are registered at OHIM in the name of Silvio Berlusconi and prevail over the Statute so they can utilize the name for their new coalition party.
Rather, Mr. Fini’s own party Future and Freedom (it’s all about freedom..) retaliated by applying for “the real center-right” trademark last September at the Italian Patent and Trademark Office, claiming it proves the Prime Minister’s will never be the real Italian center-right party…
