Poland: fakes easy to auction
The Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita published an article by Joanna Bojanczyk. The author briefly comments about recent judgments regarding eBay and presents her observations about the biggest Polish auction website - allegro.pl. According to Ms Bojanczyk, buying counterfeit goods marked Hermes, Prada, Tods, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Chanel and Bottega Veneta is very easy. The Fairy bag by Prada is this year's "bestseller". However, the saddest part of this article concerns the opinions issued by the author. She thinks that there is low degree of social reprehensibility attached to such shady business. Why? Because, luxury brands' owners made a rod for their own backs by creating an almost religious cult around bags' products. They became the symbol of women's status and some producers hiked their prices to enormous amounts.
Han van Meegeren was Vermeer's forger, he was so brilliant that experts from Holland's museums were deceived. Toutes proportions gardees. Gucci's bag is not the "Girl with a Pearl Earring" painting but maybe our fakes reflect our times?
