Bulgaria signs up for Singapore
By Singapore Notification No. 4, WIPO has indicated that the Republic of Bulgaria deposited its instrument of accession to the Singapore Treaty on the Law of Trademarks on 21 January. The Bulgarian instrument of accession contains the following declaration:
"The Republic of Bulgaria, notwithstanding Article 19(2), requires the recordal of a license as a condition for any right that the licensee may have under the Bulgarian national law to join or initiate infringement proceedings for protection of the mark, which is the subject of the license, including infringement court proceedings and claims to obtain damages resulting from an infringement". The date of entry into force of the Treaty will be notified when the required number of ratifications or accessions is reached in accordance with Article 28(2) of the Treaty - that's three months after ten States or intergovernmental organizations have deposited their instruments of accession or ratification. The total now stands at just three: Singapore and Switzerland have ratified, plus Bulgaria itself.
